WOMEN IN HONDARRIBIAN JAZZ

It is a fact that the participation of women in the world of jazz has historically been very low. According to recent data, only 11% of the artists participating in jazz festivals worldwide are women. However, despite this reality, the level of excellence and creativity that women bring to jazz music is indisputable.

For this reason, in the next edition of HONDARRIBIAN JAZZ 2023, we have decided to create a stage exclusively for the dissemination, promotion and development of jazz in a female key: Woman In Hondarribian Jazz. This stage, located in the Plaza Gipuzkoa, will be a space dedicated to present women in the world of jazz.

HONDARRIBIAN JAZZ, wants to contribute to increase the representation of women in jazz and music in general. We want to be part of the solution to this situation, and that is why we are committed to offer a space where women musicians can showcase their projects. In addition, with the creation of Woman In Hondarribian Jazz, we hope to encourage the participation and visibility of women in the world of jazz and in international jazz festivals.

It is important to note that the presence of women in HONDARRIBIAN JAZZ will not be limited only to the exclusive space for jazz projects in a female key, “Woman In Hondarribian Jazz”. The organization intends to encourage the inclusion of women in all stages of the festival, as it deems most appropriate.
